We are especially proud that our research makes a difference – whether that means knowledge that helps decision-makers make sound, evidence-based choices, or knowledge that advances the international research frontier.
You can read more about our research, and how it is used in society, here (in Norwegian).
Telemarksforsking is a small but high-impact institute. For us, our size is an advantage – it makes us agile and able to follow up closely with the clients who commission our work. At the same time, our environment gives us a distinctive profile in which different fields of expertise are never far apart.
In everything we do, both internally and in towards partners and clients, we are guided by our values: we aim to be credible, innovative, interdisciplinary and, not least: to enjoy our work!
The academic activity takes place in 3 research groups, each with its own research group leader. Each research group consists of 10-12 researchers.
For more than 30 years, the Research Group for Cultural Life and Cultural Policy at Telemark Research Institute (TRI) has

Knowledge can and should move the world forward!
Telemarksforsking is an approved research organisation and receives annual basic funding from the Research Council of Norway. We are members of FOKUS – the organisation for the five Norwegian regional research institutes – and FFA (the Norwegian Association of Research Institutes), which represents 35 research institutes in Norway.
Telemarksforsking was certified as an environmental lighthouse in 2021. We will be environmentally conscious in our choices, and do our part to reduce the burden on the external environment and contribute to green transition, both through the projects we participate in and in our own activities.
Telemarksforsking complies with rules and procedures for the processing of personal data in research projects. The institute has an agreement with NSD – Norwegian Centre for Research Data – for advice to assist us in maintaining a high standard in this field.
Telemarksforsking has prepared an action plan for gender equality. This will be subject to annual revision.
